juncture seems a favourable occasion for the transfer of

Mr. Andrewes from his present scale of £700 - £970 to

the new scale rising to £1,150 with a residential

allowance of fifty pounds per annum, and the altered basis

for calculation of rent or house allowance.

3. It is proposed that Mr. Andrewes should, on

transfer to the new scale from 9th October, 1937, the

date of the occurrence of the vacancy, enter that scale

at the point £940, but that he should retain his present

incremental date and be allowed to proceed to the next

step of £1,000 on 27th October, 1937. These and the

foregoing conditions have been explained to Mr. Andrewes

who is prepared to accept the appointment on those terms,

and, as his promotion has the full recommendation of the

Attorney General, I would ask your approval for his

promotion on the above terms.
